This index is compiled by Action for Children NC and provides county and school district data in seven key areas: race and ethnic diversity, health and safety, economic security, early care and education, child maltreatment, juvenile justice and demographics. Most of the data includes children ages birth through 17.
According to Action for Children NC: Local level data help policymakers, community leaders and child advocates better understand how children in their communities are doing. Just as no two children are alike, no two counties are alike; counties that excel in some areas, such as in child health , may struggle in education or juvenile justice. Having local level data allows communities to create more effective policy and community action for their children.
